Friday, November 20 2009

12:00 PM

These weekly sessions are always open to new people! Feel free to stop by and learn about what this program is all about, or come frequently to go deeper into the Jewish connections between healing the world and healing people.

This week, there will be two sessions (12-1 and 1-2) in order to accomodate different people's schedules...

Tikkun Olam and Healthcare: Bikur Cholim Internship
A Project of Hillel at Stanford with Chaplain D'vorah Rose, MA, RN, from the Jewish Chaplaincy at Stanford Hospital

Are you interested in learning how healthcare and tikkun olam, repair of the world, can be woven together into a deeply satisfying professional life or meaningful volunteer position?  Are you interested in exploring what Judaism has to say about bikur cholim, visiting the sick?

Come learn and explore through two options:

Internship:  Volunteer a couple of hours each week visiting with or assisting patients at Stanford Hospital, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, or Ronald McDonald House.  Then, over lunch once a week, we will meet for an hour to share our experiences, learn about the art of visiting the sick, study Jewish texts about bikur cholim and about tikkun olam, and discuss professional paths in the healthcare field which bring these elements together.

Drop-in:  As you have time, come join us for the weekly discussions and text studies.
