Jewish Life at Stanford
Hillel at Stanford, with over a dozen different Jewish student organizations that cater to the wide range of interests within the student body, reaches out to the 2,000 Jewish students on campus. A full time staff of eight professionals help students expand their cultural, education, and religious horizons, meet other Jewish students, and discover their Jewish identity as young adults by supporting the student groups and organizing outreach initiatives.
Hillel at Stanford has sponsored campus lectures in recent years by Thomas Friedman, Ehud Barak, Natan Sharansky, Yossi Beilin, Debra Lipstadt and Larry Kushner. Hillel Alternative Spring Breaks in partnership with the American Jewish World Service offer students the opportunity to work alongside farmers in countries such as Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Monthly Sunday Bagels and Jazz Brunches regularly draw 100 students.
On the first day of the Fall Quarter 2005, Hillel hosted a Welcome Back BBQ, which drew an unprecedented 250 students. We welcomed 100 students to our first Shabbat of the year. A successful Frosh Retreat at the Marine Headlands drew together a core group of enthusiastic freshman. These programs reflect a mere sampling of Hillel’s 450 religious, cultural, educational, social action, and Israel advocacy opportunities for students every year. |

Ways to Become Involved
Hillel welcomes you to explore ways in which you may want to become involved and/or simply learn more about burgeoning Jewish life happening today at Stanford. For instance, alumni often come as guest program speakers when they are in the area. Our active associations of Jewish law, business, engineering, medical, and undergraduate students also value the opportunity to meet with alumni informally. Last year, we launched a mentoring program which connects students to alumni, faculty, and community members on a one-on-one basis. We also ask alumni and friends to help us identify and/or contact others. |

Investing in the Future
Hillel’s Annual Fund is the heart of Hillel’s ability to build Jewish life on campus, providing over 60% of Hillel’s operating budget that supports hundreds of programs each year. Capital Campaign gifts are sought to complete Phase Two of the Ziff Center: the construction of a new 10,000 sq. ft. building (the Koret Pavilion) that will provide us with much needed additional program space. Donations to both the Capital Campaign and Annual Funds are critical to our long-term success. We also offer Program Endowment naming opportunities that will reflect an area of particular interest to the donor such as Shabbat dinners, Israel programming, social justice, and personal growth/leadership development.
Hillel at Stanford is a non-profit, self supporting tax-exempt 501(c)3 charitable organization. While Hillel at Stanford maintains close relations with Stanford University, Hillel receives no financial support from the University.
