Jewish Life at Stanford
Hillel at Stanford, with a dozen different Jewish student organizations that cater to the wide range of interests within the student body, reaches out to the 2,000 Jewish students on campus, from orthodox to secular. A full time staff of nine professionals help students expand their cultural, educational, and religious horizons, meet other Jewish students, and discover their Jewish identity as young adults by supporting the student groups and organizing outreach initiatives.
Hillel at Stanford has sponsored campus lectures in recent years by Thomas Friedman, Elie Wiesel, Ehud Barak, Natan Sharansky, and Alan Dershowitz. Hillel Alternative Spring Breaks, in partnership with the American Jewish World Service, offer students the opportunity to work alongside farmers in countries such as Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, as well as help with New Orleans rebuilding efforst. Monthly Sunday Bagel Brunches regularly draw 100 students.
On the first day of the Fall Quarter 2007, Hillel hosted a Welcome Back BBQ, which drew 250 students. We welcomed 100 students to our first Shabbat of the year. A successful Retreat at the Marin Headlands drew together a core group of enthusiastic undergraduates from all class years. These programs reflect a mere sampling of Hillel’s more than 300 religious, cultural, educational, social, tzedek/social justice, and Israel related opportunities for students every year. |

Ways to Become Involved
Hillel welcomes you to explore ways in which you may want to become involved and/or simply learn more about burgeoning Jewish life happening today at Stanford. For instance, alumni often come as guest program speakers when they are in the area. Our active associations of Jewish law, business, medical, general graduate and undergraduate students also value the opportunity to meet with alumni informally. We have a mentoring program which connects students to alumni, faculty, and community members on a one-on-one basis. We also ask alumni and friends to help us identify and/or contact others. |

Investing in the Future
Hillel’s Annual Fund is the heart of Hillel’s ability to build Jewish life on campus, providing over 60% of Hillel’s operating budget that supports hundreds of programs each year. We also offer Program Endowment naming opportunities that reflect areas of particular interest to the donor such as Shabbat dinners, Israel programming, social justice, and personal growth/leadership development, as well as room naming opportunities for gifts of unrestricted endowment.
Hillel at Stanford is a non-profit, self supporting tax-exempt 501(c)3 charitable organization. While Hillel at Stanford maintains close relations with Stanford University, Hillel receives no financial support from the University.
