"Do not separate yourself from your community." - Pirkei Avot 2:4
Tzedek Hillel provides a venue in which students can integrate Jewish values and actively pursue tikkun olam (the repair of the world). Through Tzedek Hillel students can participate in community service, activism, education and develop partnerships with campus and neighborhood agencies. In addition to groups dedicated to specific issues, Tzedek Hillel offers general programming that enable students to explore the connections between Judaism and social justice. Katrina/Rita Relief Alternative Spring Break Trip is a trip to the Gulf Coast Region to assist in the continuing Recovery and Relief efforts dealing with the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. 9 Students will go to either Mississippi or New Orleans from March 23-30, 2008 to assist in these efforts and explore issues of social justice, poverty, racism and their relation to Judaism and texts. This year our work efforts will focus on rebuilding houses by painting, roofing, putting up dry wall, and much more. Cost of the trip is $125 + Airfare. For more information and to apply for the trip, please contact nbranman@stanford.edu. Alternative Spring Break is an intensive week of service and study. This program is in partnership with American Jewish World Service. Contact rabbimrc@stanford.edu for more info. **In spring of 2006 eight students from Stanford went to Rabinal, Guatemala.
